Inspired by the flowing form of a manta ray, this new Winn Wittman design is one of the most advanced low-energy homes being built today. The home is under construction on Mt. Larson, one of the highest hills in Austin and was designed to harmonize with the hill-top and take advantage of the panoramic views of the river and Austin skyline. The curvilinear roof is clad in diamond-shaped zinc panels which mimic the texture of the manta ray’s skin. Despite the unique form the interior remains highly functional. We are excited to see this home built and look forward to our clients’ new life overlooking downtown Austin.

The Manta Haus’s hilltop location in Austin makes it visible from many points of interest along Lake Austin. Accordingly, the architect wanted a curvaceous and sinuous design that would not disrupt the ridge-line.

Some of the cutting-edge software used by Winn Wittman Architecture allowed for the design and engineering of this home to be completed in a 3-d modeling software. The client can view their design in a free downloaded version of the program.

Our custom home builders can use the modeling program on an iPad on site to cross-reference with the construction documents.

Other software used by our home builders can streamline the project delivery by providing a platform where client, builder and architect can all leave notes, preferences, updates and selections.

As custom home builders in Austin, we have walked hand-in-hand with our clients  through each stage of the process to design and build their dream home. We don’t just “do house plans”; at Winn Wittman Architecture, you are getting years of expertise in managing and coordinating the other parties involved in building and construction process.
